“What Is Your Mother Like?” 너의 엄마는 어떤 분이셔?

사람의 성격 등이 어떤지 물을 때 like(~와 같은)를 사용하여 what kind of person ~?으로도 표현할 수 있습니다. like에는 여러 의미가 있는데, “These two sisters are very like.”는 “이 두 자매는 정말 닮았습니다.”라는 뜻으로 여기서의 like는 ‘닮은, 비슷한’의 뜻입니다.

Betty: Today is my mother’s birthday. I’ve got to remember to call her.

Mira:  Aww… do you miss her? What kind of person is she?

Betty: My mother is the kindest person I know. She’s always sacrificing for me and my siblings.

Mira: Your mother sounds like an amazing person.

Betty: She really is. I miss her so much. I think she’s one of my best friends. What is your mother like?

Mira: My mom is an extremely generous person; she is very considerate and concerned about other people.

Betty: Your mom sounds like she is a wonderful woman. I would love to meet her sometime.

Mira: I'd love for you to meet her. She would definitely like it too.

베티: 오늘이 우리 엄마 생신이셔. 꼭 전화 드려야해.

미라: 어... 엄마 보고 싶지? 엄마는 어떤 분이셔?

베티: 우리 엄마는 내가 아는 가장 친절한 분이셔. 언제나 나와 우리 형제들을 위해 희생하시지.

미라: 훌륭한 분이신 것 같아.

베티: 정말 그러셔. 너무 보고 싶어. 우리 엄마는 나의 가장 친한 친구 같아.

      너의 엄마는 어떤 분이셔?

미라: 우리 엄마는 정말 마음이 넓으신 분이라서 이해심도 많으시고 다른 사람들을 배려하셔.

베티: 정말 좋은 분이신 것 같은데. 언제 만나 뵈었으면 좋겠어.

미라: 나도 네가 우리 엄마를 만나면 좋겠어. 우리 엄마도 분명히 좋아하실 거야.
